Did You Know?
?that the first woman to cycle around the world
was a Jewish mother from Boston?
Author Peter Zheutlin will recount the story of his Great-Grand Aunt, Annie Cohen Kopchovsky, the first women to ride a bicycle around the world. Zheutlin's extensive search through foreign and domestic newspapers, personal letters and family artifacts enabled him to piece together the story of this remarkable adventure, and this woman's accomplishment. Peter's book Around the World on Two Wheels is the story of a daring woman who took on a wager and traveled alone with only a revolver and change of underwear. Annie funded her travels by renting advertising space on her clothing and lecturing about her adventures. And this was in 1894!
Peter Zheutlin is an experienced public speaker and freelance journalist whose work appears regularly in the The Boston Globe. He has also written for the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Tikkun, and dozens of other newspapers and magazines in the United States and abroad. Through Peter's efforts, Annie's singular achievement has been recognized by The Jewish Women's Archive.
